On 22 March 2023, the European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on Green Claims. The proposed Directive aims to tackle false environmental claims by ensuring that consumers receive reliable, comparable and verifiable environmental information on products and services across the European Union. By laying down clear criteria on how companies should evidence environmental claims, along with mandating an EU labelling scheme and new enforcement procedures to secure compliance, the Directive on Green Claims is designed to enable better environmental decision-making by consumers and to reduce so called “green washing” (spurious environmentally friendly claims). 📢 Newly introduced Czech sanctions on Russian state-owned real estate might become applicable throughout the EU ✔️On Wednesday, 15 November, the Czech government froze Russian state-owned properties in the Czech Republic, expanding the national sanctions list formed in reaction to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. 💡 The Czech government widened its national sanctions list to include Goszagransobstvennost, a company controlled by the Russian presidential administration that manages Russian assets abroad. The company cannot make any dispositions concerning its properties in the Czech Republic, and any rental income paid is to a frozen bank account. 👉🏻 This move is part of a broader Czech call for a stricter European response to the war in Ukraine, as the government plans to push for a similar ban throughout the European Union. 🌍If adopted at the EU level, such a Europe-wide ban would result in asset freezes of hundreds of properties owned by the Russian Federation in the EU. 📩For any other details or information, please contact Karla Rundtova, Partner, at trk=public_post_embed-text #intheknow #sanctions #EU
