Kinstellar strengthens its team in Uzbekistan with the appointment of Sherzod Yunusov as Partner

October 2021 – Kinstellar is delighted to announce that Sherzod Yunusov has joined the firm’s Tashkent office as Partner. His joining the firm bolsters our team’s capabilities in Uzbekistan and particularly our expertise in the energy and infrastructure sectors and project finance.

Sherzod Yunusov has expertise and an established track record handling a wide array of matters related to oil and gas transactions (including exploration and gas production; production sharing agreements; development of fields; design and construction of infrastructure projects; gas transportation and processing; plant operation; sales of gas; and project finance), renewables (solar and wind), and infrastructure projects. He also advises on restructurings, general banking as well as commercial and corporate matters.

Prior to joining Kinstellar, Sherzod was an Associate in the Office of the General Counsel of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London. Before that, he worked with the Houston office of a well-known global law firm as a Foreign Associate and part of their Energy and Natural Resources Practice Group. During his professional career, Sherzod served as Head of the Dispute Resolution Department of LUKOIL Uzbekistan, responsible for the resolution of all disputes and controversies arising in connection with the company’s energy projects in Uzbekistan, and as Chief Legal Counsel with their Contracts department.

Sherzod has developed transactional instruments improving certain ESG components under EBRD solar projects implemented via a project-finance structure, for which project he was awarded EBRD Green Week Prize Award 2020 (1st place).

On a pro bono basis, Sherzod has organised contracting, procurement, delivery and start-up of oxygen stations in Samarkand and Nukus, Uzbekistan, as part of a fundraising campaign initiated by EBRD employees.

Sherzod earned an LL.M. degree from Duke University School of Law, USA, where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar, and an LL.B. (Faculty of International Law), with honours, from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

He speaks Russian, Uzbek, and English.
