Kinstellar Counsel Andriy Nikiforov moderated a roundtable on trends in the payment services market in Ukraine organised by the Ukrainian Bar Association

December 2018 – On 11 December 2018, Andriy Nikiforov, Counsel at Kinstellar in Kyiv and Chair of the Banking, Finance and Insurance Committee of the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA), moderated a roundtable on changes in the payment services landscape in Ukraine, organised by the UBA. Other speakers at the roundtable included Natalia Lapko, Director of the Payment Systems Department of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), and Arthur Muravitsky, Director of the Financial Services Department of Ukraine’s national postal service, Ukrposhta as well as senior managers of Ukrainian commercial banks.

The participants discussed the current condition of the payment services market and prevailing trends in Ukraine. An in-depth Q&A session among the participants explored the Draft Law 7270 “On Amendment to Laws of Ukraine Regarding Regulation of Money Transfers” and other legislation that the NBU is currently working on in relation to the payment services market, as well as the implementation in Ukraine of the EU's Directive 2015/2366/EU on payment services in the internal market (PSD2). Andriy Nikiforov also delivered a presentation comparing conventional means of electronic settlement with virtual currencies and shared his thoughts about the potential of cryptocurrencies to replace traditional payment infrastructure.

The Ukrainian Bar Association is an all-Ukrainian public organisation founded in 2002. At present, the UBA has over six thousand members, including private legal practitioners, in-house legal counsel, notaries, judges, public officials, MPs and renowned legal scholars. There are currently 24 acting UBA committees tasked with the further development of the legal profession in Ukraine, improving legislation, building relationships with public authorities and contributing to public reforms.
