Expected new round of auctions in Romania for 28 petroleum exploitation areas

June 2019 – It is expected that Romania’s National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM) will announce plans to hold auctions for 28 petroleum exploitation areas. The auctions involve 22 onshore and 6 offshore concessions. Auctions are apparently scheduled to start on 17 June 2019.

The development comes ten years after the last concession round, when 30 petroleum perimeters were auctioned. This latest round has long been waited by upstream investors, as it enhances the development of the sector and enables the entry of new players into Romania’s upstream segment.

Perimeters are offered through a public call for tenders by the ANRM, and the list is published both in the Official Gazette and in the Official Journal of the European Union, with a subsequent post on the ANRM’s website.
